| Farmer Andrew's Update
Spring has started at the farm. We have new baby chicks, who arrived in the mail. The crew has started seeding onions and leeks in the greenhouse. We've also been busy making improvements in the farmstand. The floor has been refinished and a few months ago, we had new lighting installed. Possibly the best improvement is our new produce display bins and shelves. The Wild Oats in Portland, Maine closed and we were able to obtain their beautiful displays. Please come by and check out how great our produce looks in this new setting.
In other news, our CSA is now full, thanks to all of you who signed up. We are now taking a waiting list, and may open up the CSA, depending on weather and crop conditions.
Soon, we will be mailing our new 2008 Education Programs flyer to each member family. Inside, we will enclose your pick up day and a reminder for the CSA events happening this summer. I'm really excited about our new programs and events, and am looking forward to our best season yet. |
Lydia Sisson, Farm Educator
We're thrilled to introduce our newest member to the crew, Lydia Sisson. She will be living here at the farm, and will be splitting her time between farming and running our education programs and birthday parties. Lydia is 23 years old and grew up in McClellanville, South Carolina. She graduated from Vassar College and spent a summer working for Fresh Roots, an urban youth farming project in Lowell, Massachusetts. She has spent time working at Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary as a teacher/naturalist, and also has also worked on a farm in Brazil. She's particularly excited about our new partnership with Eurostoves, teaching young chefs about where their food comes from. Her goal is to run her own educational farm. Her favorite vegetable is collard greens. |
