School Groups, Scouts, and More
We offer programs and tours for groups designed to provide participants with hands-on learning experiences that work well with Massachusetts Agriculture in the Classroom frameworks. Scouts can work on a variety of badges, and we can tailor a program to meet your specific needs. Sessions last approximately 1.5 hours and cost $8 per person, including siblings and chaperones. A $25 deposit is requested to reserve your date. Participants should dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes or boots.
School Groups - Green Meadows Farm provides grade appropriate field trips, which support the learning skills mandated by the Massachusetts Educational Standards. All our programs include hands-on experience with live animals and plants. We gear your trip to your needs and we will give you materials to supplement your pre and post teaching activities, i.e. vocabulary lists, key concepts, follow– up suggestions and recommended reading lists.
Life of a Chicken is an introduction to poultry on an organic farm. We will talk about the life cycle of chickens and ducks, visit a hen house, gather eggs and discuss best practices for raising healthy chicks. We will see that the birds have a busy social life and are actively contributing to the farm. Hopefully, this will lead to some conversation about where we really get our food.
Life on a Farm is an introduction to all the animals that live and work here. We investigate the habitats of our chickens, ducks, pigs and sheep, as well as our kitties and the farm dog. We will visit a greenhouse, a hen house, the sheep barn and the pig pile. We will learn the difference between animals who work for us and animals who are our pets. This trip will include discussion of healthy practices for growing food on an organic farm.
Integrated Farming provides an overview of current accepted sustainable farm practices. We will examine “waste” generated on the farm - animal, mineral and otherwise. We will look at ways in which we can reuse, recycle and renew our resources. We will visit a hen house, the sheep barn, the fields and, of course, the compost pile.
